Sue Romey is 90 years young today!

Momma Sue and sister Cynthia, Feb 5, 2023

Wow, my wonderful mother is moving across the nonagenarian barrier and right on into decade number ten.

In her honor, a few random observations regarding Sue Romey Wade DeWitt:

  1. Mom is as sharp as ever. We Wade kids are fortunate to have a Mom who’s still going strong, sound of mind and body.
  1. As I write this Saturday (before the IU-Purdue basketball game), Mom is for sure fidgeting, pacing around or doing busywork/chores — nervous about the outcome today. If there’s a bigger Indiana basketball fan on the planet, I’d sure like to meet them. [NOTE: IU wins!!]
  2. Born in 1933, she has lived in Richmond, Bloomington and Evansville IN; Harrisburg PA; Boston MA; Arlington VA; and Park Ridge and Chicago IL.
  3. Mom has a favorite waitress of all time — Robin over at House of Como, Evansville’s quirky, venerable steakhouse/diner where every day is Christmas (the decorations are 24x7x365).
  1. She’s spending the weekend with Cynthia [my sister], who’s in from Bainbridge Island, WA.
  2. In 12 days, she’ll jump on American to DFW and spend the long weekend with us watching Rob Wade play some basketball! It’ll be her first time in Dallas. (Has been to Austin plenty.)
  3. Mom loves her grande decaf peppermint mocha latte at the Starbucks’ drive-thru on the way back to her cozy westside condo after running errands in town.
  4. An inveterate traveler, Mom has been to all over the world including Antarctica. Her first big trip was in summer 1953, as a rising college junior with three Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority sisters, sailing from Quebec to London. She and Dad first brought my sister and I across in 1976 when we visited [older brother] Woody while he was studying in Hamburg, Germany. Woody now lives in Lausanne, Switzerland. His niece was married there last September, and we all attended.
  5. After Dad died in 1994, Mom remarried Ken DeWitt, a neighbor and longtime friend of the family whose wife had passed away the same year. Ken and Mom enjoyed two decades of great fun together until his death in 2017.

Happy 90th, Mom!!!!!!!!
